Medical Laboratory Technology
A Rewarding Career Working in the Medical Field
Western Piedmont Community College’s Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program prepares you to work in medical labs, performing clinical procedures in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and immunohematology as part of the team that provides health maintenance, diagnosis and treatment of disease to patients.
Topics covered include mathematical and scientific concepts related to specimen collection, laboratory testing and procedures, quality assurance and reporting, recording, and interpreting findings from tests involving tissues, blood and body fluids.
The MLT program has 4, 5, or 6-semester completion options, with fall and spring start options, administered in a hybrid format. All completion options require summer classes, on-campus mandatory class meetings, and a one-semester clinical rotation at a local hospital consisting of 40 hours per week at the clinical site.
Graduates of the program will be eligible to take the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC) MLT examination.
You should consult your advisor for information about course scheduling before enrolling in any MLT classes.
